The French foreign
minister’s son Thomas Fabius, 34, who is wanted in the US for allegedly
bouncing cheques for millions of dollars at Las Vegas casinos, has been charged
in France with forgery in relation to his high stakes gambling habits.
The charges came as his
father, Laurent Fabius, was making headlines after he said that France will
recognise a Palestinian state if its efforts in coming weeks to try to break
the deadlock between Israelis and Palestinians fail.
Thomas Fabius was born to
a wealthy family of antiques and art dealers. In 2013, his father declared net
assets of more than six million euros, including three houses and a 1.2 million
euros stake in the Piasa auction house.
The charges against Thomas
Fabius were sparked by a complaint filed in 2011 by Société Générale bank.
Investigators are also seeking to work out the provenance of the money he used to buy a palatial 7.3 million euros apartment on the chic Boulevard Saint-Germain on the Paris Left Bank.
Mr Fabius junior, who is currently banned from frequenting casinos in France, has insisted he paid for his flat with 8 million in gambling winnings he amassed in 2011/12 in Monaco, the United States and Cyprus.
But France’s financial fraud squad cited the “dubious provenance of funds” that passed via two London gambling clubs, Crown Aspinalls and Les Ambassadeurs.
It also questioned the affluent lifestyle of the failed businessman who is a regular in French Riviera night spots.
Fabius junior faces arrest if he returns to the United States for spending 3, 5 million dollars in Las Vegas only for the casinos to see his cheques bounce.
Nevada state court issued an arrest warrant following a criminal complaint over several bad cheques he wrote to three casinos on 15th of May 2012. The day before his father officially became foreign minister in President François Hollande’s Socialist government.
We don’t have only the politicians that Screw us but their earthlings as well!
