Largely mobilized before
the demonstrations on Saturday, many police officers, worried about the turn
that could take this day, struggle to contain their anger vis-à-vis a political
power that still reluctant to give clear orders. The discomfort is palpable:
some would even dream to put their yellow vest on the back.
"We are all
remembered Saturday, in fifteen years of police, I never saw that". In his
police station in Paris, this police officer fears the worst, as many of his
colleagues CRS or police who have been struggling to calm their anger since
last Saturday. In question, "the absence of clear and legible orders
despite the violence expressed," sums up one of the members of the
intervention company mobilized under the Arc de Triomphe during the last
demonstration in Paris yellow vests. All wonder if there is a pilot on the
plane, and digest poorly the political management of their actions in the
field. They repeat having waited for orders while the situation was rotting,
and do not understand why "so many colleagues were retained to search bags
at the entrance of the Champs Elysees while it was so easy to stay out in the
hope of break everything ".
One of them, 25,
remembers a day during which he "saw himself die several times". He
also remembers the end of the day when he had to leave half an hour earlier to
welcome Interior Minister Christophe Castaner and Premier Edouard Philippe to
the barracks. "They stayed for ten minutes to come say thank you, there
was a death silence and nobody opened their mouths. It was better for them,
"summarizes coldly this young policeman. The anger is greater still when
one evokes the name of the President of the Republic, and his wandering the
next day in the still smoking streets of the 16th arrondissement of Paris. "Instead
of parading, he could have started in France the day his people express his
anger," slice a CRS furious presidential behaviour.
The icing on the cake,
the idea of a bonus of 300 euros to reward the police field. "He took us
for whores or what," shamelessly launch some of them, who have already
said they refused the sum. "It's been years since the malaise grows in the
police, that our overtime is not paid, that we ask for clear orders, a change
of method in the maintenance of order, an adequate penal response and suddenly he's
trying to buy us because we did our job, it's just indecent, "one of them
said.
Many of them recognize
that this movement provokes in police officers a sort of "very unpleasant
schizophrenia". A few days after the clashes on the weekend, a young hired
sums up: "We spent fourteen hours beating stones, jets of acid, iron bars
and insults in the face. And returning at night, we removed our uniform with
the desire to put on this yellow vest too. The police institution is one thing,
but the police are French, and like the majority of their compatriots, they are
exhausted "
