After the posters advocating
municipal heavily armed police, after the filing of Muslim students, Robert
Ménard, mayor of Béziers supported by the National Front, continues to be
talked about. The politician would have sent two reporters on Thursday
"fuck off," says Liberation.
It is 9 am on Thursday Roirand Olivier (South TV), president of the press club
in Montpellier, and Sebastien Hoebrechts (Montpellier Direct Matin Plus),
traveled to the town of Beziers to meet Robert Ménard , founder of Reporters
without borders, "to try to mediate and quell rising tensions between the
elected and the local and regional media," says Press Club. The mayor of
the Béziers city is indeed in conflict with the Midi Libre newspaper for
several months.
But after ten minutes of just
maintenance, the mayor called a "losers," the two journalists, sent
them to "fuck off" and drove them out of "his" town hall.
He also qualified for Midi Libre "newspaper of shit" and regional
media "in press". "This attitude of an elect of the Republic is
unacceptable and constitutes a serious attack on democratic values that bears
the press, but also an insult against its millions of readers, listeners and
viewers. This attitude is all the more inconceivable that Robert Ménard began
as a local reporter in Montpellier, co-founded the Press Club and Reporters
without Borders created in Montpellier earth "deplores the Press Club.
The journalist Sébastien
Hoebrechts explains, "Robert Ménard had accepted our invitation, and our
meeting was planned long ago. The tone is mounted, and then he asked us to get
out of "his" town hall stating that he was "at home" here.
We do not understand why he received us, if it is to send us walk then ...
".
For his part, Robert Ménard
responded to the controversy over the release site: "They introduced me
this appointment as a courtesy call. Now, these two journalists came to give me
a moral lesson. For me, Midi Libre is an opposition newspaper, and I will not
bow to them. I was a journalist, so what? All journalists do not necessarily
have the talent, and we have the right to criticize without threatening the
freedom of the press "
