Electric Fishing In Europe

Peril for European waters
On 21 November, the European Parliament's Fisheries Committee must decide whether electric fishing can be considered a "conventional" fishing method. That would be tantamount to allowing it once and for all in Europe.
Electrocute fish, conventional? Never ! Let's mobilize!

It's electrocution: no more, no less
Today in Europe, fish populations have reached such low levels that going fishing them costs more than it pays. Instead of reducing the number of fishing vessels and allowing the fish to rebuild, the industrialists have instead decided to capture them to the last, and by all means!

The Dutch now equip electrodes boats that send an electrical impulse to dislodge the fish from the sediment in which they burrow.

Do not let them turn the ocean into a desert
Electrocution often causes haemorrhages and fracturing of the spine of fish.
It's a hecatomb. And no one knows the effects of electric current on eggs, juveniles or electro-sensitive species such as rays and sharks ...

Artisanal fishermen oppose this radical fishing method that could empty our oceans of any resource in a few years.
The industrialists are irresponsible but there is no question of letting them transform our oceans into deserts!

We can roll back the Dutch industrialists!
The Dutch industrial lobbies are unleashed: they managed to convince the European Commission to grant derogations to this fishing, which is forbidden in Europe. But that's not enough for them! They want to shift all European fisheries to their morbid technique. We must stop them!

Let us ask MEPs to listen to the will of the people and to be discerning. On November 21, they must resolutely oppose the planned decay of our fishermen and our oceans.

There is an urgent need to make our voices heard by European decision-makers.
Sign this urgent petition and share it with everyone!
