The Minister of Economy and Finance, Bruno Le Maire,
gathered in Bercy the various economic actors to take stock of the impact of
blockages since the beginning demonstrations of "yellow vests".
Road transport and logistics companies estimate the
operating losses suffered so far at 400 million euros. But the most impressive
figure is that put forward by the National Association of Food Industries
(Ania) which estimates at 13.5 billion the amount of direct losses for the
agri-food sector. Ania interviewed its 18,000 member companies. Since the
beginning of the movement of yellow vests in mid-November, the average loss
already recorded amounts per company to 700,000 euros. The
maximum loss reported is 4 million euros.
Bad luck for the end of
the year
The 13.5 billion integrate the already recorded losses but also the estimates until the holidays. This period represents 20% of the annual turnover of the sector. It must be taken into account that this impact affects both production, product processing, transport and exports. A food product that does not reach its place of transformation and the entire production chain is jammed. Hence the final astronomical bill estimated. Ania is committed to updating its data every week until the holidays.
The impact is severe and continuous for other sectors as well. The images concerning Paris are impressive. But it's not just the capital. In France, hundreds of thousands of small traders and artisans, SMEs and small businesses are affected. The loss is more severe for artisans and small traders who do not work like large distributors with available stocks. A small downtown merchant who is not stocked (in fresh produce for example) can not satisfy his customers. For some grocers, butchers, bakers, the latest estimates collected in the field by the various federations report decreases in turnover of 60 to 70%.

Consequences for
employment
For two to three weeks, a large number of traders have seen their activity reduced by more than half. This weighs on already stretched treasuries. When one or two employees are employed, the situation is sometimes complicated. Some fear that they will have to separate from their employee (s) at least temporarily. The load becomes really heavy.
