BEERS CONTAINING Glyphosate

Glyphosate - the active ingredient in Monsanto's Roundup weed killer that some studies have linked to cancer - is also a secret ingredient in nearly 20 popular beers and wines.

This is the result of a new study by the US PIRG Education Group, and 60 MILLION CONSUMERS who discovered glyphosate in 19 of the 20 wine and beer brands tested, including organic labels and breweries.

"Today, we are convinced that glyphosate is under fire from a federal court," said Kara Cook-Schultz, author of the study and director of US PIRG Toxic, at USA Today. "This chemical could pose a real health risk to so many Americans, and they should know that it is present everywhere, including many of their favorite beverages."

2. The only drink tested that did not contain glyphosate in the USA was Peak Beer Organic IPA.

The quantities found were well below the glyphosate safety limits set by the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), as Bayer's toxicologist William Reeves told CBS News, through a spokesperson.

"The US Environmental Protection Agency has set daily exposure limits at least 100 times lower than proven values having no adverse effects in safety studies," said Reeves. "Assuming that the highest reported value, 51.4 ppb, is correct, a 125-pound adult should consume 308 gallons of wine a day, every day throughout his life to reach the glyphosate limit of exposure." man established by the US Environmental Protection Agency. To put 308 gallons in context, it would be more than a bottle of wine a minute, for life, without sleeping.

"However, the study found that chemicals are not necessarily safe simply because regulators claim it.

"Although these glyphosate levels are below the EPA's risk tolerances for beverages, even low levels of glyphosate may be problematic. For example, in one study, scientists discovered that one part per trillion glyphosate could potentially stimulate the growth of breast cancer cells and disrupt the endocrine system, "says the study.

The magazine "60 million consumers" seized the opportunity to analyze 45 beers among those most sold in supermarkets.

250 pesticide residues were found in 39 beers and 6 white beers. Result? Three quarters of the beers tested show a trace of four residues detected: boscalid, phthalimide and folpet, fungicides that fight against the development of fungi on plants ... and glyphosate.

This patented herbicide, manufactured and marketed by the American company Monsanto, is the best-selling weedkiller in the world. But these effects would be harmful: in March 2015, the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) has classified "likely carcinogenic to humans".
0.41 microgram for Grimbergen and 9.23 for Affligem Thus, 25 beers have quantifiable levels of glyphosate: from 0.41 micrograms per liter for Grimbergen to 9.23 for Affligem. The average hovers around 1.93 micrograms per liter. Among the most contaminated beers: Affligem and Castelain.

The International Agency for Research on Cancer of the World Health Organization has decided that it was probably carcinogenic to humans in 2015. More recently, a study published in February found that people exposed to glyphosate were 41% more likely to develop non-Hodgkin's lymphoma.

In the first case against Monsanto over the Roundup last year, a jury ruled that glyphosate exposure caused the non-Hodgkin's lymphoma of Dewayne Johnson, a California groundkeeper. The plaintiff, Edwin Hardeman, made a similar claim in the first federal glyphosate lawsuit, which began on Monday.

"Because of the many health risks of glyphosate and its ubiquitous nature in our food, water and alcohol, glyphosate use in the US should be banned as long as there is NO more danger ", Said the US PIRG study.
