CONTROVERSY

Chaired by Patrick Kanner, the northern department has paid a ceremonial room at 48.700 euros, while in a difficult budgetary situation.

It's a story that makes a lot of couches talking. Indeed, it is their price, which puts a lot of questions. No less than 48,700 euros to equip a ceremonial room in the council department. The bill was paid in November 2012, the General Council of the North, became the county council. At the time, the department was headed by Patrick Kanner (PS), current Minister of the City.

The bill, which on 20 minutes got hold of the information, shows two sofas at 7,000€, five shears at 3,800€ each and two poufs at 2,100€ each, all leather tan and William Brand. Class! The seller even made a small gesture of goodwill by offering 9 new accessories.

How a continually threatened local authority, by its new president (LR) Jean-René Lecerf, to put under financial supervision, he was able to spend that amount for the furniture? "The furniture had not been changed since the 90s, it needed to be replaced. The figure may seem high but also the image of the county council. And this furniture is meant to last, "says collaborator Patrick Kanner.

Reduce expenses
while these represent a small amount of 48,700 euros against the annual department budget, which amounted to 3.4 billion in 2012. But the specter of budget cuts already hanging over the institution and Patrick Kanner even boasted at the time, reduce spending for greeting ceremonies to replenish the social budget of 100,000 euros.
20 Minutes has done the test to find out if there was no way to lower prices. They found the same sofa for 6,500 euros before tax on sale on the internet, a savings of 1,000 euros for both. With a few clicks.

Find the sofa?

Furthermore, according to the South Union, these sofas and armchairs remained not found within the county council buildings, for a few weeks. "There is no inventory for this kind of furniture," says the union. Information disputed by the Presidency firm that wishes to clarify that it is "absolutely no solidarity" with those purchases made under the former Socialist parliamentary term.

Proof that the old right-wing opposition hardly puts is nose in public spending.
